How do you ship boards?
For shipping to central and Southern California, we often use Action Sports Express. Rates are between $50 and $100 depending on length of board. Many of our clients in other parts of California plan a trip to Santa Cruz to pick up their boards and sample the plentiful waves in this part of the state.
For domestic out of state shipments we use air cargo, which means airport to airport. We normally don't ship internationally, but will deal with each situation individually. The costs vary depending on the size and weight of the packed board, along with the destination.
Michel shapes every board. There are no “ghost shapers”. Many of Michel's models are cut on the KKL CNC machine, which he thinks is the best and most accurate contemporary machine available. He then hand-finishes each of these models to ensure every nuance and detail of the board.
What is the normal turnaround on a custom board?
Because of the current COVID situation, what is often happening is that there are delays in the supply chain for materials used in building my boards. This, along with higher demand, boards now take 10 to 12 weeks for completion. If you order a custom blank/stringer arrangement, or if we don’t have a certain size blank in inventory, it might take an additional 2 weeks to get the blank and complete the board.
Can I tell Michel exactly what I want for colors?
He will always discuss the color ideas with you and make sure you get the glass job you want.
Can I pick up the board when it's done?
Yes, you can always pick up a board at my factory. I have a small retail area with boards, fins, leashes and board bags for sale. I also meet personally for shaping appointments at my factory.
